Also a praise because Caleb was hit in the face during a baseball game and only came away with 1 black eye ( the ball hit him square on the nose).

8. Harris: prayer for the baseball team--a lot of travel in the rain this week.

9. Troutt: praise that Race for the Cure went well last weekend.

For all who read this, and especially for those who missed last Sunday, I am leaving you with some verses Vic gave to us to look over during the week. He has really been challenging us (in a good way) over the last 2 weeks and I really appreciate how willing he is to reach out to us even if he feels we will be uncomfortable. Here are the verses:

Romans 8:29
2 Corinthians 3:18
Romans 12:2
Philippians 4:8
Proverbs 27:19
Ephesians 3:16-17a
2 Peter 5:8
Matthew 7:14

These all deal with being Christ-like. Here are a few more points I wrote down:

Perception is reality.
You must have discipline and have your priorities straight to truly succeed at anything.
What do you want to be? Do you want to be you or what God wants you to be?

Again, I appreciate you Vic! Thanks for challenging us the past few weeks:-)

Finally for anyone interested, when we were talking about the Armor of God a few weeks ago, it reminded me of what all the Kids Day Out kids are listening to--Kingdon Kidz CDs are fabulous to help your children (and yourself) learn verses:-) Here is the link where you can listen/buy if interested. www.kingdomkidzclub.com Hope you enjoy it:-)

Snack List

Hi everyone! Long time no posting, I apologize. Here is the snack list for the coming weeks--

April 19th: Sauer Dugger

April 26th: Furnish Perez

May 3rd: Foltz NEED

May 10th: Beattie Furnish

May 17th: Hester Dugger

May 24th: Troutt NEED

May 31st: NEED Foltz

Also, I just received the following email from Kathy Beattie: My mom had a successful 5 hour long surgery last Thursday. Her recovery was going better than expected. Last night the dr.'s told her that she may go home from the therapy hospital 3 weeks earlier than planned. But, this morning while getting out of her wheel chair for therapy, she twisted and something popped. She is in major pain and we are awaiting the ex-ray results. The fear is another major surgery, it is possible that her pelvis, which had a hairline crack, has broken. She is very scared at the thought of another surgery. Please pray for peace and healing and that she does not have to go in for another surgery.
Thanks.Kathy Beattie

Hope everyone had a great Easter! See you on Sunday!

Praise/Prayer Requests

Hi everyone--I hope you are having a great week! WE are on Spring Break this week, and I have enjoyed it so far:-)

1. Congrats to the Lady Saints on their State Championship! Way to go!

2. Beattie: Kathy sent me an email today about her mom: Could our class please pray for my mom, Rita Humphrey. She went in last week for test and total bone scan to see if her bones were strong enough for a total hip and knee replacement. This surgery would need to be done as soon as possible. She was born without most of one of her hips and has had 2 new ones built in, in her life time. She is almost unable to walk and in a ton of pain. This old hip of 33 years has deteriorated and has scraped away at the good bone around it and they are not still quite sure if there is enough bone to reconstruct and hold in a new hip. The old hip that the metal extends down the leg has cracked the knee and femur . If they find that that the damaged bone can not hold the new hip she will be confined to a wheel chair for the rest of her life. Well that surgery and all it's testing has been put to an immediate stop because during the bone scan they found a black spot on the inside of her skull and they do not know if it is cancer or not. Testing yesterday has just begun on that. We will know by Tuesday of next week what that is and how to treat it. My mom just turned 67 and had to be in the hospital on her birthday having all these test. Not the best of gifts.
God is good and my mom is a very strong believer and she has accepted that if God wants her in a wheel chair for the rest of her life, so be it and she knows that her hip has failed now so that this spot could be revealed hopefully early enough to be stopped and healed.
Thanks for the prayers in advance.
In Christ's love,Kathy B.

3. Don't forget to sign up for Friday Night Out by midnight tomorrow if you received a voucher. Email Dorothy at dorothyo@fbcs.net

4. Shon just found out a colleague of his had a stillborn baby back in February. This was their first child, a girl, and they had a routine stress test the day before the birth that was normal. Please keep them in your prayers--their names are Chris and Anne Horbelt.

5. If anyone has anything else, please let me know!

Not sure who has the next snack round--please search the blog below this post:-) I'll pass around a new sheet this coming Sunday.

Potato Soup

5 baking potatoes, peeled, cut up, and boiled until tender
1 pkg real bacon pieces
1/4 cup chopped onion
1 pkg shredded cheese
milk ( I don't measure)
heavy cream (again, I don't measure, but the smallest would work fine)
1/3 cup flour
1 stick butter
salt/pepper

When the potatoes are almost done cooking, in a separate pan melt the butter and add flour to it, making a roux. When the flour and butter are incorporated together, add heavy cream (enough to make it still liquid--the flour will thicken things up, but you don't want it too thick.) After the potatoes are done, drain them and return the pot to the stove. Salt and pepper at this point. Add the chopped onions , 1/2 of the cheese, and 1/2 the pkg of bacon pieces--stir gently. I pour the heavy cream mixture over the potatoes, and then add milk on top of that to the desired consistency. Then turn your heat on low or turn your crock pot on low and let simmer for a while, stirring occasionally if not in the crock pot. Add more salt and pepper as desired. When finished, garnish with the left over bacon pieces and the shredded cheese.

Praise/Prayer Requests

Hi guys-sorry for the long break in between posts--life has just been catching up with me lately. Here are this weeks praise/prayer requests. The snack list is toward the bottom of the blog--it runs through March.

1. Dugger: Todd has been in Hawaii this week; Karla's cousin Claudia is at home and walking around like nothing happened.

2. Harris: baby boy due soon--pray for safe delivery and post partum.

3. Rimmer: Garrett baptized last Sunday, Maddie the week before him; pray for Natalie--questions about salvation.

4. Foltz: prayer for guidance as to what they are supposed to be doing. Also, I just received this email from Mandi: my Dad, Dale Harper, went to the hospital Tuesday. The doctor wants to keep Dad on bed rest this week--and keeping him for a number of days.Last night he was in pain and repeatedly emptying his stomach all night. This morning, after calling the clinic, Mom took him to the emergency room. There seems to be a blockage in the intestines again and agravated by this weeks chemo--Dad body wasn't reacting well. Hope that changes over the next few days of rest and help his body regain some normality. Prayer for Mom also. When she is busy and stressed, she doesn't want to eat and that is not good for her blood sugar.

UPDATE from Mandi: My Dad had a rough night Tuesday and was moved to the ICU. Yesterday, Thursday, they were more normal functions. Drs added more fluids and nurturance by a tube. My Dad is regaining his strength and able to get out of bed w/ help.

5. Dunlap: prayer for Shon's family--his great aunt passed away late last week.

I will be posting the recipe for potato soup in the next post. Also, our class won sweet rolls for the I love my church Sunday--we will be having those March 8th. Have a great week!

This Sunday

Hi everyone--a quick post now and I will get back on later tonight or tomorrow to post everything else. Our potluck is this Sunday and will be in the Parlor, not the Place. For those of you who were not there last Sunday, everyone and their families are invited to bring a soup, dessert, or crackers/fruit/dips/etc this Sunday immediately after our SS class. We ask that each family bring a six pack of soda, so that if we have any left over we will have them for our class. The paper goods are taken care of. Come and fellowship with us--we hope to see you there!

Friday, January 9, 2009

Finally a post:-)

Hi everyone! I hope you had a wonderful Christmas break and New Years! I can't believe it is already 2009--the year just flew by, especially the last month. I am going to go over some announcements, list out the snack list, and then go on to the prayer list:-)

First, we as a class are going to have a potluck next week, the 18th--you can bring your families as it will be directly after Sunday school:-) We were thinking that something in a crock pot would be the easiest to keep warm--soup, chili, dip, whatever. I think we will need a few people to bring toppings like cheese and sour cream and maybe some crackers, and then a few people to bring dessert. Maybe each family can just bring a 2 liter for drinks so that doesn't fall to one person.

Next, for Super Bowl Sunday, which is February 1st, we will be having a party at Vic and Michana's house. Kids are welcome to come. Not sure about the food situation there--I am sure we will discuss it as it comes closer.

On the 23rd of this month our class is scheduled for a social through the church with childcare provided. I know that Shon and I have used it as a date night a few times, and also have just gone out with a few couples. I don't know if we want to do anything as a class, but if not whomever wants to needs to sign up with Dorothy Oxier. The cost is $2.00 per child, and supper is provided. It is from 6 until 9.

There is a men's conference coming up in February on the 27th and 28th. It is a Friday night and Saturday morning. I am sure there will be more information about that, too.

Here is the snack list for the next few months:

Date Sweet Salty

Jan. 11 PEREZ RIMMER

Jan. 18 DUNLAP HESTER

Jan. 25 PEREZ

Feb. 1 TROUTT SCACCIA

Feb. 8 PLEGGENKUHLE DUGGER

Feb. 15 DUNLAP

Feb. 22

Mar. 1 RIMMER

Mar. 8 PLEGGENKUHLE

Mar. 15 SCACCIA

Mar. 22

If you see an empty spot you would like to fill--just let me know either in an email or in the comments section. Here are the prayer requests:

1. Dugger: PRAISE that Selena's mom was there for the birth of the baby on NY eve, and that they were able to talk before that. Todd is traveling this week. Also pray for her older sister who is looking for a place to relocate--she will be in Tampa, FL for a month and will be leaving her son in Texas with his dad if moving.

2. Rimmer: Prayer for Michana's brother's children--they didn't' receive much from their parents for Christmas. PRAISE that Garrett led the oldest, Cody to Christ. Natalie was able to talk more with Cody. Keep praying for him and his decision.
